ACH Volley About to Start the Third Season in the Champions League
Ljubljana, 24 November 2009 – The ACH Volley team has set its goal for its third season in the European Champions League; namely, to repeat last year's result and qualify for the second round of this most prestigious European competition or maybe even do better. The team also wants to show all its Slovenian volleyball fans a unique sports event, which has already taken place in the hosting Tivoli sports hall in Ljubljana several times. This was reported at ACH Volley's press conference, held at ACH, d. d.'s conference room on 23 November, a week before the official start of the Men’s Volleyball Champions League.
A special guest of the press conference was the vice-president of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), Riet Ooms, who emphasised that great sports performances and excellent organisation of ACH Volley competitions are not surprising. Everyone has shown an unbelievable amount of desire and courage, which has resulted in the Slovenian team being able to participate in this elite competition. Igor Dolinšek, the general secretary of Slovenia's Volleyball Association, Gregor Humerca, the team's executive director, Glenn Hoag, the team’s coach, and Andrej Flajs, the team's captain, also participated in the press conference.
At the press conference, Riet Ooms shortly presented the past ten year’s achievements of the European Volleyball Confederation and the basic objectives of the establishment of the European Champions League, in which only the best can compete. Igor Dolinšek, general secretary of the Slovenian Volleyball Association, added that the interest of clubs and associations for participation in the Champions League is exceptional. Gregor Humerca, ACH Volley's executive director, revealed the team's plans for the Champions League. Despite this year's draw, which has put ACH Volley into a demanding group, the rejuvenated team plans to get into the second round, and if they are given that opportunity, they plan to go even further. Glenn Hoag, ACH Volley’s coach, is currently dealing with various illnesses of the players and the elimination of oscillating changes and errors during competitions. He is convinced that they will be on the right track if they consider their agreements. The team starts with the first Champions League competition in early December, and this season the team’s coach will also compete against his former club – Paris Volley. Andrej Flajs is the team's captain for the first time. In his opinion, the most challenging opponent will be the Polish team, which has achieved great results in a very strong national volleyball league.
ACH Volley will be playing the first Champions League competition against Asseco Resovia in Rzesow on 2 December. The first competition in Slovenia will be held at Tivoli sports hall on 9 December, when our team will host their opponents from Istanbul, B. Sehir Belediyes.
